In case you didn’t already know it
The FoodTrients team attended the Natural Products Expo West at the Anaheim Convention Center held March 7-10. We found a mountain of interesting new, all-natural and organic products that will be hitting store shelves in the months to come. The show is one of the biggest gatherings of the top existing brands and newcomers in the natural and organic product category. Over 62,000 people from the industry and the media attended the four-day event. We discovered even more FoodTrients-filled foods than ever – from the exotic to re-created classics. It’s clear that today’s shopper is savvier than ever and looking […]
When it comes to anti-aging medicine, The Official Anti-Aging Revolution by Ronald Klatz, M.D. and Robert Goldman, Ph.D. may be one of the most complete books on the subject to date. The book covers all areas of anti-aging medicine from theories on aging to hormone therapy, through lifestyle choices (exercise, sleep, stress, skin-care) and even into biotech-human enhancements. Doctors Klatz and Goldman are credited with being the forerunners of anti-aging medicine here in America. They founded the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (www.worldhealth.net) and the American Board of Anti-Aging/Regenerative Medicine which board certifies physicians in the clinical practice of anti-aging […]
The holidays always call for plenty of desserts. Whether I’m throwing a party, giving gifts of food, or reliving holidays past through sweet treats, desserts are integral to my life this month. I’ll share a few of my favorite recipes with you. Every year I host a Christmas caroling party at my home. Choirs from churches all over the area stop by to sing in my living room. Sometimes a Filipino celebrity or two will perform. My guests just love it. I like to put out a dinner buffet so that the choirs have something to eat before they go […]
You may have read, or heard about, a cream called BEC5 (brand name Curaderm) that claims to heal non-melanoma type skin cancers. The active ingredient in this cream is reported to be eggplant extract. Earlier in the year it was featured on Dr. Oz’s popular talk show blog and ever since I’ve had questions from patients about whether or not it works. That’s why I’d like to give you some information about eggplant extract and the reported skin-cancer healing properties. First, let me give you some information on skin cancer. Skin Cancer and Sun Exposure – Too Little vs. Too […]
December is rife with holiday parties and I love to entertain. Mostly I throw parties at my home or in elegant hotels like the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills. Occasionally I attend potluck parties at other people’s homes. Bringing food to a party can be tricky. It has to be prepared ahead of time, survive being packed and transported, and look elegant once it’s plated at the party site. Also, it needs to taste great at room temperature, unless you have a crock pot and can keep it warm (see story on our crock pot giveaway below). These are not […]
Men who drink one normal-sized soft drink per day are at greater risk of getting more aggressive forms of prostate cancer, according to a Swedish study released Monday. “Among the men who drank a lot of soft drinks or other drinks with added sugar, we saw an increased risk of prostate cancer of around 40 percent,” said Isabel Drake, a PhD student at Lund University. The study, to be published in the upcoming edition of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, followed over 8,000 men aged 45 to 73 for an average of 15 years. Those who drank one 330-millilitre […]
Remember, remember, the 5th of November, or Bonfire Night as it is known in Britain. What’s interesting is that this is one particular celebration or commemorative day that there does not appear to be any particular food associated with, perhaps because it isn’t an American celebration. We celebrate everything with food. There must be some marshmallows or chestnuts roasting or potatoes baking in those bonfires somewhere. So what foods do we have in season to celebrate with in November? In-season fruit choices include apples, clementines, cranberries, pears and tangerines. Vegetable choices that should be at reasonable prices include Brussels sprouts, […]
Pumpkins are chock full of the FoodTrient carotenoids, which our bodies turn into vitamin A. These nutrients are really good for your skin, hair, eyes, and heart. They also help prevent cancer and support the immune system. Winter squash is also a good source of the FoodTrient fiber, which helps to control the appetite and is good for the digestive tract. So I’m exploring delicious ways to enjoy many interesting fall fruits of the vine: pumpkins, kabocha squash, butternut squash, acorn squash, hubbard squash, and turban squash. At this time of the year, pumpkin pie is very popular. Since I […]
The scariest part of Alzheimer’s Disease is that doctors still don’t quite fully
