Carrot Quiche: A Fresh & Nourishing Brunch

A beautiful quiche is one of my favorite dishes to serve when entertaining—perfect for a relaxed Sunday brunch or spring lunch with family and friends. Simple, elegant, and make-ahead friendly, it allows you to enjoy the moment without the rush. This Carrot Quiche is a go-to for me this time of year. The carrots add natural sweetness and vibrant color, while their slight firmness creates a lovely contrast to the silky, custard-like filling. From a FoodTrients perspective, carrots are rich in beta-carotene, which the body converts to vitamin A to support immune health. They also contain carotenoids and lutein, nutrients […]

Easter Traditions, Family, and the Joy of Gathering

A Fresh, Nourishing Easter Brunch with Lightened Recipes, Creative Egg Decorating, and Meaningful Family Traditions Easter has always held a special place in my heart. Growing up, it wasn’t just a holiday—it was a celebration of family, renewal, and the simple joy of being together. I remember the excitement of Easter morning, waking up early to search for brightly colored eggs tucked into garden corners, under tables, and sometimes in the most unexpected places. It was magical. Today, that tradition continues with my own family and friends. Each year, I look forward to hosting an Easter brunch—setting a beautiful table, […]

Classic French Apple Tart

Pear and Apple Tart In this dessert, I take the recipe for the classic French dessert tarte tatin–with its quercetin-containing apples–and add pears for their copper content and pecans and cinnamon, which are high in antioxidants. It is worth noting that when used in sufficient amounts, cinnamon also has anti-blood-clotting agents and anti-inflammatory properties and may help stabilize blood sugar levels. SERVES 6-8 Ingredients 6 Tbs. butter, cut into small pieces 1/2 cup sugar, combined with 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon 4 apples (Braeburn, Granny Smith, Gala, or Fuji), peeled, cored, and cut in half 2 pears (Bosc), peeled, cored, and […]

What’s for Breakfast? A Special Meal for Mom

Surprise mom with a beautiful breakfast! Three amazing dishes that can be served for breakfast or brunch that she will absolutely love! For those of us who grew up in Southeast Asia, big, savory breakfasts were the norm. A popular breakfast staple was smoked fish with scrambled eggs and tomato salad. Fried rice, fried eggs, sausages called longaniza (a bit like Spanish chorizo), and rice porridge with fish or meatballs were also regularly on the menu in most homes, but not in mine. My father, who was a physician and very health-conscious, always ate plain oatmeal, and he insisted we eat it, […]

It Was a Special Brunch for President and Mrs. Carter

Rosalynn Carter is a truly unforgettable American hero who inspires everyone she meets. Recently, she arrived in Los Angeles to be honored as one of the most accomplished and important First Ladies in United States history. She is a woman I greatly admire, and whom I met for the first time last August when I traveled from Los Angeles to Plains, Georgia with a delegation from St. Genevieve School in Panorama City, CA. The school’s president and principal, Dan Horn, traveled to Plains with the St. Genevieve Jazz Band and conductor Carlos Dominguez, where they celebrated Mrs. Carter’s 90th birthday […]
