Creating Recipes Is Like Therapy for Grace O

For me, it is never a chore or a bore to create recipes. In fact, it’s a kind of therapy for me, and it’s also a way to continue to learn about food and how our diets contribute to wellness. I start with classic dishes, many of which I learned how to make from my mother, and I amp up their nutrient value with anti-aging super foods, some of them quite exotic but easy to obtain. I research new ingredients constantly, always learning about antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables from all over the world. I have a list of my favorite […]

Finally! A Guide to Supplements

By Jessica Rubino It was sometime between embracing healthy, nutrient-dense foods and waking up to toxins in my cosmetics that supplements took over my medicine cabinet and sundries bag. Somewhere on that ever-complicated yet increasingly inspiring path to wellness—one filled with choices and pitfalls, improvements and setbacks—I began to believe in the power of those powders and pills as one vehicle to help drive me in the direction of a healthy lifestyle. Perhaps, as is the case for many supplement users, it started based on faith—the belief that an ingredient used for thousands of years, found in nature, could help […]

EWG’s 2016 Dirty Dozen List of Pesticides

WASHINGTON – Conventional strawberries top the Dirty Dozen™ list of EWG’s 2016 Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce, displacing apples, which headed the list the last five years running. Some of the chemicals detected on strawberries are relatively benign, but others are linked to cancer, reproductive and developmental damage, hormone disruption and neurological problems. Strawberries were once a seasonal, limited crop, but heavy use of pesticides has increased […]

Who Inspired the Creation of FoodTrients?

My parents are really the reason I created FoodTrients. As a physician, my father had a way of looking at food as though it could heal us. He understood the value of the vitamins and minerals found in fresh foods and how those elements could improve our health.  Food like organic fruits and vegetables, wild fish, and humanely raised animals has so many good things in it: antioxidants (Ao), omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, anti-inflammatory (Ai) agents, fiber and anti-bacterial compounds. My mother is my greatest inspiration for loving to cook.  She owned a culinary school, every chance I got […]

General Mills To Disclose GMOs

FRIDAY, MARCH 18, 2016 WASHINGTON – Reacting to the news that General Mills plans to disclose the presence of GMOs in its products, Scott Faber, EWG’s senior vice president of government affairs, said today: EWG applauds General Mills for disclosing the presence of GMOs on its products. Nine out of ten Americans want the right to know whether their food contains GMOs – just like consumers in 64 other nations. Like General Mills, we hope Congress will craft a national GMO labeling solution and welcome the opportunity to work with industry to find a solution that works for consumers and […]
