Feeling Frisky? 15 Foods To Enhance Romance

Feeling frisky and ready for romance?  Well, I have a few good suggestions for foods that are not only good for you but also tasty treats that will enhance any night (or day) of romance. In my observation, there are several categories of foods that qualify as “romantic,” or enhance a romantic moment. First, and obviously, are the ones that resemble parts of the anatomy associated with sex and love like bananas, asparagus, and avocados (think about it). Or moist, voluptuous foods like oysters and figs. Then there are the foods that provide so much nutrition and feeling of well-being […]

Buckwheat Crepes Take Veggies to New Heights

Vegetarian Buckwheat Crepes Full of gut-healthy fiber, vitamins, and minerals, buckwheat is a grain that is too often overlooked. Most people have never cooked with it or encountered it in restaurants. In this recipe, I turn buckwheat pancake mix into crepes and stuff them with healthful vegetables such as asparagus and immunity-boosting shiitake mushrooms. SERVES 4 Ingredients 2 medium eggs Pinch of salt 1 cup low-fat milk 2/3 cup buckwheat pancake mix 3 Tbs. peanut oil 1 tsp. minced garlic 1 Tbs. grated gingerroot 1/2 cup chopped leeks (white part only) 1 cup chopped shiitake mushrooms 1 cup asparagus, thinly […]

It’s Citrus Season and the Squeeze Is On!

Here in Southern California, just about every yard and neighborhood has citrus trees heavy with fruit. I have a number of fruit trees myself and always marvel at how plentiful and tasty the oranges, lemons and limes are this time of year. Just about any variety of citrus is at its best in the winter months, but there are some new and unusual varieties that are pretty spectacular. Along with great taste, all citrus are high in vitamins A and C and fiber, while naturally low in calories. Grapefruit Red grapefruit varieties such as Flame, Ruby, Rio Red and Star […]

Thai Shrimp & Pineapple Bowl

This curry is delicious over white or black rice. I use monk fruit sweetener to reduce the impact cane or beet sugar can have on your blood glucose levels. Monk fruit also has NO CALORIES, and it’s completely natural. You can use coconut sugar instead, but like cane sugar, it will impact your blood sugar and is caloric. Benefits: Pineapple contains bromelain, an enzyme that aids digestion by breaking down proteins. Coconut milk contains some medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) which are broken down more easily by the body, as well as the anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antibacterial, and antiviral lauric acid. Serves 4 […]

Indian Sheet Pan Chicken with Chickpeas

Indian Sheet Pan Chicken with Chickpeas The spices in this dish are inspired by Indian cuisine. The acid in the yogurt marinade helps tenderize the chicken. The sugar helps brown the chicken skin and caramelize it as it roasts. Be sure to toss the chickpeas (garbanzo beans) and cauliflower florets occasionally, coating them in the chicken fat as it renders. Benefits: Chickpeas contain fiber which aids digestion, increases satiety, and helps lower blood cholesterol. The iron in chickpeas helps transport oxygen properly throughout the body. The zinc they contain may play a role in reducing your risk of macular degeneration. […]
