Natural Ways To Avert Allergies

By Joel Warner If you’re one of the nearly one in three American adults who suffers from hay fever, you know the miserable symptoms all too well: itchy eyes, runny nose, and serial sneezes. Over-the-counter and prescription medications can bring relief, but also side effects such as sleepiness and anxiety. This year, don’t wait until peak allergy season to fight back against that mountain of wadded tissues. Experts say allergies can work like a “drop in the bucket,” where repeated exposures to various allergens add up gradually until the immune system “overflows,” or rather overreacts, flooding the body with the […]

5 Steps for Perfect Meal Portions

With the recent rise in number of people who are becoming more health conscious, it seems as though this task is simultaneously becoming more difficult. Granted, many brands and restaurants are offering “healthier” options, but one of the largest problems for our waistlines and health still persists…the size of our meals. EWG’s 2016 Dirty Dozen List of Pesticides

WASHINGTON – Conventional strawberries top the Dirty Dozen™ list of EWG’s 2016 Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce, displacing apples, which headed the list the last five years running. Nearly all strawberry samples – 98 percent – tested by federal officials had detectable pesticide residues. Forty percent had residues of 10 or more pesticides and some had residues of 17 different pesticides. Some of the chemicals detected on strawberries are relatively benign, but others are linked to cancer, reproductive and developmental damage, hormone disruption and neurological problems. Strawberries were once a seasonal, limited crop, but heavy use of pesticides has increased […]
