Aloe Vera for Immortal Skin

The ‘plant of immortality’, as it was called by the Egyptians, can perform miracles not just for your skin but for your hair and health as well. Aloe vera is a cactus plant that belongs to the Liliaceae family. It grows in dry climates such as those found in parts of Africa and India and has been used extensively for years. The clear, sappy substance hidden in its long, thick leaves is the magic potion. Aloe vera plant contains numerous antioxidants, as well as anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and anti-microbial properties. It is said to be useful in treating wounds and minor […]

General Mills To Disclose GMOs

FRIDAY, MARCH 18, 2016 WASHINGTON – Reacting to the news that General Mills plans to disclose the presence of GMOs in its products, Scott Faber, EWG’s senior vice president of government affairs, said today: EWG applauds General Mills for disclosing the presence of GMOs on its products. Nine out of ten Americans want the right to know whether their food contains GMOs – just like consumers in 64 other nations. Like General Mills, we hope Congress will craft a national GMO labeling solution and welcome the opportunity to work with industry to find a solution that works for consumers and […]

Men Who Eat Soy May Have Lower Lung Cancer Risk

Men who do not smoke and eat a lot of soy may have a lower risk of lung cancer, according to a new study, BBC health reported. Soy contains isoflavones, which act similarly to the hormone estrogen, and may have anti-cancer qualities in hormone-related cancers of the breast and prostate. Cells in the lung have properties that suggest they may also respond to isoflavones. Reaserchers studied more than 36,000 men and more than 40,000 women, 45 to 74 years old and free of cancer at the start of the study. The researchers followed the women for about 11 years, after […]

Fatigue? Might Need More Than A Nap

Falling asleep during conference calls or snatching siestas several times a day may be a sign of nutrient deficiency, and could lead to more serious consequences than being caught snoozing on the conference line, notes a recent U.S. News & World Report article. “Fatigue can be like an early warning sign of potentially more severe problems down the road if you don’t recognize and treat the problem causing the fatigue,” Dr. Anthony Komaroff, a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and a senior physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, said in the story. The top deficiencies that […]

Celiac-Safe Wheat Chris Miller, director of wheat quality research for Heartland Plant Innovations in Manhattan, Kansas, is working with the Kansas Wheat Commission to develop a wheat-strain that will be safe for those with celiac disease. The Bountiful Benefits of Boron

Boron is a trace mineral which is utilized in relatively small amounts in the body. Compared to minerals such as calcium and magnesium, boron and its benefits are not as well-known. Even though it’s a trace mineral, boron still possesses biological activity. A study at the University of Illinois quantified boron levels in 12 human tissue sites, including bone, skin, and muscle. The positive effects of boron became better known when Durk Pearson and Sandy Shaw began reporting new research on the subject. Below we’ll touch on many of the roles boron plays in health. Boron Protects Your Bones A […]

World Is Hungry for Better Food

Over one billion people in the world are hungry and over one billion are overweight. Far from complete opposites, hunger and obesity are in fact different manifestations of the same problem: It’s increasingly difficult to find and eat nutritious food. In her new book, We the Eaters, author Ellen Gustafson describes how fast food corporations and junk food convenience stores are muscling out indigenous farming practices and wholesome food not only in our country, but around the world. Developing nations are getting a double whammy, she says, as nutrient-deficient junk food creates growth-stunting hunger in children, and she documents how […]

A Better Form of Vitamin C

Even though humans cannot synthesize vitamin C, every tissue and cell in our body needs this nutrient for healthy growth and repair. Maintaining optimal levels of vitamin C is difficult because it is water soluble and cannot be stored in the body. This inability to maintain high vitamin C levels is recognized by researchers as limiting its potential benefit, especially with regard to chronic illness. For years, scientists have been looking for ways to boost the impact of each dose of vitamin C. Fortunately, a method has been discovered to increase the speed at which vitamin C is absorbed. Reaching peak concentrations […]
