How To Get Fit at Mid-Life

What if you could be fitter now than you were in your twenties? And what if you could achieve it while feeling more comfortable and confident in your body than ever before? On the eve of their 48th birthdays, authors Samantha Brennan and Tracy Isaacs set out to achieve a daunting feat: to become the fittest they’d ever been in their lives by the age of 50. To chart their progress, they created their blog Fit is a Feminist Issue, dedicated entirely to the unique challenges, questions, and issues they would face as women seeking fitness after the age 40. Probiotics Can Prolong Your Bones

In a first, Swedish researchers have discovered protective effects for probiotic supplementation against the loss of bone that occurs in aging humans. The study was reported on June 21, 2018 in the Journal of Internal Medicine. In a randomized trial, 90 women with low bone mineral density who were between the ages of 75 to 80 years were given a placebo or the probiotic Lactobacillus reuteri 6475 for 12 months. Tibial bone mineral density was assessed at the beginning and end of the study. “When we finished the study after a year, we measured the women’s bone loss in their lower legs with a CT […]

10 Tips to Live to 100!

One of my patients, I’ll call him Joe, is a younger-than-his years 72-year-old businessman.  I generally see him about once a year for his annual checkup.  When I ask how he’s doing, with a big, energetic smile he always answers, “1 year closer to 100!”  I smile back and tell him I’m counting on him to keep his promise.  That’s Joe’s goal – to live to “at least 100”.   I’ll bet he’s going to make it by the very slow rate he’s aging.  Maybe you’re wondering if you could live to 100. Well, I’m happy to tell you that the […]

5 Steps to Lengthening Lifespan

Americans don’t live as long as people in most other high-income countries, but modest lifestyle changes could increase their lifespan by as much as 14 years, according to a new study. The study, published Monday in the American Heart Association journal Circulation, examined how lifestyle factors like regular physical activity, not smoking, moderate drinking and a healthy weight and diet might raise life expectancy among Americans. Although the U.S. is one of the world’s wealthiest nations, it ranks 53rd in the world for life expectancy at birth, according to 2015 data from the World Health Organization. Researchers at Harvard University studied data from 123,219 patients compiled during […]

As one of America’s leading geriatric psychiatrists, Marc E. Agronin, MD sees both the sickest and healthiest of senior members of society; he observes what makes their lives better and more purposeful, and what doesn’t. Create More Youthful Skin Using Papaya
