Summer Meets Grill for BBQ Ribs and Sliders

When I think back to my most pleasant summer memories, I think about cooking outside.  Most of the time that means grilling . . . and one of my favorites — barbequed ribs. Whether you use a traditional charcoal barbecue or a gas barbecue (my preference because you can control the heat more precisely), foods come out tasting delicious—almost magically so. And while most of us think of protein on the grill, fruits and vegetables come out brilliantly — the direct heat caramelizes whatever produce you’re grilling, deepening the flavor. The Lowdown on Plant-Based Meat Substitutes

One of the hottest topics to come out of the world of food and nutrition was the broad introduction of plant-based meats, specifically patties that mimic beef burgers. Cheeseburgers With a Healthy Little Secret

Stretch high-quality grass-fed ground beef—which has a higher ratio of healthy fats than conventionally raised beef—and boost nutrients by adding vegetables and cheese. All ingredients, including the cheese, are incorporated right into the meat mixture, which makes these burgers moist and flavorful. Hidden Veggie Cheeseburgers Ingredients 1 lb. grass-fed ground beef 2-3 medium zucchini, shredded and squeezed completely dry (to yield 7-8 oz) ¼ cup chopped fresh parsley […]

These 2 Popular Foods May Cause You To Gain Weight

These Popular Foods May Be Sabotaging Your Weight Loss One of the important health issues of getting older is weight management.  If you’re overweight in middle age, your chances of developing serious disease – like diabetes, heart disease, and even cancer – are greater.  And, like most people over 50, you may have been struggling with maintaining a normal weight or trying to lose some. If you’re still working, or just too busy to make meals at home regularly, like many of my patients you may be eating at a fast food restaurant several days a week.  You might stop […]

Where’s the Beef? A New Take on Burgers

Part of my goal in creating FoodTrients has been to help people get healthier by eating wholesome foods. I have helped friends regulate their diabetes by encouraging them to drink my chia frescas every day. I have helped older relatives stay nourished by providing them fresh moringa leaves to incorporate in soups, dips, and other foods. And countless colleagues have told me that they have learned just from reading my blogs how the food they eat affects their bodies. Now, I am addressing people’s requests to create healthy versions of their favorite comfort foods.
