The pelvis and femur bones of the hips and upper thighs are especially significant as we get older because they support our body walking and standing and, really, with any activity we do.

The Anti-Aging Revolution is Focus of New Book

When it comes to anti-aging medicine, The Official Anti-Aging Revolution by Ronald Klatz, M.D. and Robert Goldman, Ph.D. may be one of the most complete books on the subject to date. The book covers all areas of anti-aging medicine from theories on aging to hormone therapy, through lifestyle choices (exercise, sleep, stress, skin-care) and even into biotech-human enhancements. They founded the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (www.worldhealth.net) and the American Board of Anti-Aging/Regenerative Medicine which board certifies physicians in the clinical practice of anti-aging […]

Gene Variant Found Among the Very Old

The January 2, 2013 issue of The Journal of Neuroscience published the discovery of Robert Moyzis of the University of California, Irvine and his colleagues of an increase in a dopamine receptor gene among men and women aged of 90 and older. The finding is the result of an analysis of genetic samples derived from 310 participants in the 90+ Study whose ages ranged from 90 to 109 years. Dr Moyzis […]

Calorie Restriction Mechanism Identified

In an article published online on December 6, 2012 in the journal Science, Eric Verdin of the University of California, san Francisco and his associates report their finding of a mechanism via which a low carbohydrate, calorie restricted diet delays the effects of aging. This pattern of eating results in the production of ketone bodies that include beta-hydroxybutyrate (βOHB) which, when present in low levels, may help protect the body from the effects of damaging oxidative stress. In experiments in human and animal cells, calorie restriction stimulated βOHB production, which blocked the activity of enzymes known as histone deacetylases (HDACs). These enzymes prevent […]

Carnosine: A Proven Longevity Factor

Mounting evidence documents the ability of carnosine to prevent many of the detrimental effects of aging.
